Does Medicare or insurance pay for this?
No. Our services are private-pay consultative services and are not billed to Medicare or other insurance. For now, we take card payments by phone after you book. People with Medicare receive a written notice explaining this before their first service.
Is this a medical visit?
It is a clinical assessment by a licensed physical therapist, focused on how you function in your home. It does not replace your doctor, home health, or therapy you already receive, and our readiness rating is not medical clearance.
How is this different from a free home safety check from a contractor?
A contractor's check is usually a sales step for the renovation. We assess the person as well as the house, we never sell construction, and we never take money from contractors.
Do you do the construction?
No. We write the specifications. You choose a contractor, from our vetted network or your own, and contract with them directly. We can verify the finished work with a Build Verify Visit.
My parent is in the hospital now. How fast can you help?
Book Ready for Discharge: Virtual. Sessions usually happen within 48 hours of booking, or within 24 hours with the rush option, and the report follows within 24 hours of the session.
I live out of state. Can I be part of it?
Yes. Any family member can join a video session from anywhere. The patient and the home must be in Florida, because that is where we practice.
Who sees the report?
You do, through a secure client portal. Anyone else, including family, caregivers, or a discharge planner, receives it only after you sign a Release Authorization naming them.
Do you record video sessions?
No. If we take screenshots to mark a hazard, they are stored only in the secure portal.
What if the home is rated Red?
Red means there is a gap that cannot be closed by the day of arrival. We call the family the same day and talk through options, such as a short-term alternative, a different room, or temporary equipment, and with authorization we call the discharge planner too.
Do you work with the VA?
We are independent of the VA, but Dr. L'HommeDieu spent years as a VA Home Safety Coordinator. With your permission, we share our report with your VA care team. If a similar service exists through the VA in your area, Dr. L'HommeDieu will attempt to guide you to the right service, free of charge.
